Family Room Renovation

Project Overview

From Dated Family Room to Architectural Focal Point

This Norwalk, Connecticut family room began as a dated space that wasn't living up to the potential of the home. The existing fireplace was tucked into a corner, the ceiling lacked architectural interest, and the room needed a stronger sense of purpose and personality.

Working with Peter Stofa & Company, we completely reimagined the space. The ceilings were vaulted and accented with wood beams, immediately adding height, warmth and architectural character. We relocated and redesigned the fireplace to become the focal point of the room and refinished the floors to create a beautiful foundation for the new design.

Adding Character Through Custom Details

One of our favorite elements of the renovation is the pair of custom arched built-ins. Designed specifically for the homeowner, they add softness and architectural interest while providing a beautiful place to display books, art and collected objects.

The combination of the vaulted ceiling, exposed beams, new fireplace and custom millwork transformed what had been a fairly ordinary family room into a space that feels as though it was always meant to be part of the house.

Designed for How the Family Lives

Once the architectural renovation was complete, we furnished and styled the room to make it equally comfortable and inviting. Warm neutrals, natural materials and layered textures complement the new architectural elements while keeping the space relaxed enough for everyday family life.

The result is a family room that feels completely transformed—warm, welcoming and full of character, with architectural details that give the space a timeless quality.
